LIGHT SUPPORTS 'AD BANDS' 2006 TO RAISE MONEY FOR AUTISM
(TORONTO, April 24, 2006) First Light proudly supports 'Ad Bands', a collection of rock bands made up of some of the advertising industries most talented creative people, who are coming together on May 11th for a second year to raise funds and awareness for one little girl diagnosed with Autism. "Ad Bands is a meaningful charity event for First Light on two levels. Firstly, the event supports one of First Light's own photographers, whose daughter is affected with Autism. Secondly, we always make it a priority to nurture and support our industry’s creative efforts be it photography, film or music." says Lisa Dempsey, CEO of First Light The 'Ad Bands' concept was conceived by Craig Brownrigg, an associate partner at Grip Limited and uncle to five year old Tennyson, who is affected with Autism. The event aims to raise funds for Tennyson's costly IBI Autism therapy and to increase awareness about this disease. This year’s event boasts a bigger venue and a bigger line-up of impressive bands, including the return of Craig's own band, 'White Spoonable Dressings'. "As one of our industry's many closet musicians, I’ve always wanted to get a bunch of people together for a night of live music. And to do it for a cause that is close to me on a personal level is really amazing." says Craig Brownrigg. The success and major industry support of the cause last year was the impetus for turning 'Ad Bands' into an annual event, with plans to go even bigger next year. This year includes performances by 'SPANC'; composed of Toronto's best editors/post production people, 'Duchess'; fronted by Grip's Ben Weinberg, drummer/ad producer Johnny Chambers and Grayson Matthews' Tom Westin on guitar, 'Jackie's Own Asses'; featuring creatives from BBDO Canada including Art Director David Houghton, the drummer from the Cowboy Junkies and is managed by Jack Neary and 'The Weather Girls'; starring professional studio musicians, fronted by Pirate Radio and Television's own Chris Tait, formerly of 'Chalk Circle'. 'Ad Bands' supporters include Pirate Radio and Television (www.pirate.ca), First Light, Photography, Film, and Thought Supplies (www.firstlight.com), and photographer KC Armstrong (www.kcarmstrong.net). 'Ad Bands' is on May 11th at the El Mocambo, located at 464 Spadina. Doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets available at the door for $20, with all proceeds going to Tennyson's IBI Autism Fund. In addition to great music, there will be a silent auction and door prizes. Check out 'Ad Bands' on www.myspace.com/adbands.
